New body of work in progress

 

Moving from my latest ‘Chalk to Ice’ body of work which included studies of the South Down in the UK and the barren landscapes of Iceland (featured in my recent exhibition in London) I’m currently focussing on a new subject: Water.

At my home in the South Downs National Park I am surrounded by many trees, rivers and lakes. On country walks I have been studying these and also woodland puddles, often stained a dark blood red from the acidic pine trees reflected on their surfaces.

You can find below two examples of ‘works in progress’ where I am beginning to explore the many forms of water in nature:

These colours are so rich and beautiful alongside the oranges and yellows of the autumnal leaves, which fall to create ripples in the water, before sinking to the bottom, only highlighted as deep red shapes by the shadows of the tree trunks interspersing the reflections of blue and white sky.

The lakes offer so many shapes, colours and reflections that intertwine in myriad patterns, and I see this as a new challenge to try and capture some of these:
